Security Alert: Overnight Vehicle and Garage Break-Ins

Neighbors have reported thieves roaming the community after 2:00 a.m., checking for unlocked car doors and opening garage doors using garage remotes left inside unlocked vehicles. Please take a few minutes to review the tips below and help protect your home and vehicles.

Ways to reduce your risk:

• Park vehicles inside the garage whenever possible instead of in the driveway or street.
• Lock all car doors every night, even in your own driveway or garage.
• Do not leave garage door remotes or key fobs inside your vehicle. Keep clickers and fobs inside the house.
• Lock house doors, including the door between the garage and the home.
• Keep exterior lights on overnight to make your property less appealing to anyone casing the neighborhood.
• Consider a motion-activated camera or alarm that sounds an audible alert when movement is detected outside, which can startle off intruders and provide video evidence.
• Remove or hide purses, electronics, and garage door openers from vehicle seats and consoles.
• Get to know your neighbors and share license plate photos of unfamiliar vehicles idling or circling late at night.

If you notice suspicious activity, do not approach anyone. Call the Spartanburg Sheriff's Department non-emergency line at 864-596-2222, or call 911 if you witness a crime in progress or feel you are in immediate danger.

Thunderstorm Electronics Safety Tips and What to Do After a Lightning Strike

Strong storms can cause power surges and outages that may damage TVs, Wi-Fi routers, gaming systems, computers, and other home electronics. A few simple steps before and after a storm can reduce risk and speed up recovery.

Before and during a thunderstorm:

• Use quality surge protectors for TVs, routers, modems, computers, and entertainment equipment.
• Unplug high-value electronics when severe lightning is nearby and it is safe to do so.
• Unplug coax and Ethernet lines from modems and routers if possible, since surges can travel through data lines.
• Avoid using corded electronics and do not handle plugged-in equipment during active lightning.
• Keep devices elevated and dry in case heavy rain causes leaks or moisture issues.

If devices are not working after a lightning strike:

1. Check for a neighborhood outage first and confirm whether your utility provider has reported a service interruption.
2. Reset tripped breakers by switching each tripped breaker fully to OFF, then back to ON.
3. Check and reset any GFCI outlets in bathrooms, garages, kitchens, and exterior outlets, as they can cut power to nearby rooms.
4. Power cycle your internet equipment: unplug modem and router for 60 seconds, plug modem in first, wait for it to reconnect, then plug in the router.
5. Test devices in a known working outlet and avoid repeatedly powering on equipment that smells burnt or shows signs of damage.
6. If internet service is still down, contact your ISP to check for line damage or to test your modem remotely.

If you suspect panel damage, burning odor, sparking, or warm outlets, stop troubleshooting and contact a licensed electrician immediately. Safety should always come first.

Community Safety Reminder: Stop Signs, Speed Limits, and Safe Parking Practices

Good morning Paddock Point.

We would like to remind everyone of the importance of following traffic laws and practicing safe driving habits within our community. This morning, there was a serious near-miss incident in which an individual was almost struck by a vehicle when a driver failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

Stop signs and speed limits are in place to protect pedestrians, children, pets, and motorists. Taking a few extra seconds to come to a complete stop and driving at a safe, legal speed can prevent a tragic accident and help keep our neighborhood safe.

We would also like to ask residents to be mindful when parking vehicles on community streets. For those who live on corners, near community entrances, and adjacent to stop signs, please exercise courtesy and consider how parked vehicles may affect visibility and traffic flow. Many of us have either witnessed or experienced situations where parked vehicles have obstructed sight lines, making it difficult to see oncoming traffic or requiring drivers to maneuver around vehicles in the roadway, creating potentially dangerous conditions.

To help improve safety for everyone, please:

• Come to a complete stop at all stop signs.
• Obey posted speed limits throughout the community.
• Be alert for pedestrians, cyclists, children, and other vehicles.
• Avoid distracted driving.
• Park in a manner that does not obstruct visibility at intersections, entrances, or stop signs.
• Be considerate of your neighbors and the shared roadways within our community.

Our goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, families, guests, and visitors. By working together and demonstrating courtesy behind the wheel and when parking, we can help prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Entrance Fountain Update

The Yearling Way fountain has been repaired and is now operating.

Both entrance fountains have been evaluated, and a few additional maintenance items are scheduled over the next few weeks.

Once that work is completed, both fountains should be fully functional.

We wanted to share a few exciting updates on what the Community Improvement, Events & Newsletter Committee has been working on behind the scenes!

NEWSLETTER & COMMUNITY UPDATES

As many of you have seen and used, Ivan previously created a website to help keep our community informed. This has been especially helpful for neighbors who may not be part of the Facebook page or community chat, giving everyone another way to stay updated on what’s happening around Paddock Point. We truly appreciate Ivan putting this together for our neighborhood!

COMMUNITY EVENTS

We’re currently working on a fun event for all of our neighborhood kiddos! We’re waiting on a couple of final details before officially setting the date, but our goal is to have the event sometime in September. More information will be shared as soon as everything is finalized — stay tuned!

COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

We also have two community improvement projects currently in development!

Dog Waste Bag Stations

We’re working on adding dog waste bag stations throughout the neighborhood. Our hope is to make it easier for everyone to clean up after their furry family members and help reduce dog waste being left in yards and common areas.

“Leave a Book, Take a Book” Stand

We’re also working on bringing a little community library to Paddock Point! Neighbors will be able to leave a book, take a book, or simply enjoy finding something new to read.

These projects take a little time to plan and coordinate, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience while we work to bring them to life.

We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to find ways to bring our neighbors together and make Paddock Point an even better place to call home!

How to Report a Non-Emergency Safety Concern

If you observe concerning activity in the neighborhood, please use the following steps to make a clear report.

1. For immediate danger or urgent situations, call 911.
2. For non-emergency concerns, call the Spartanburg County non-emergency line at 864-596-2222.
3. Provide the location and a brief factual description of what you observed.
4. The non-emergency number connects you to an operator, who will route the call and dispatch the appropriate response.
5. Depending on the situation, follow-up may be by phone, or an officer/deputy may be sent to your home if needed.
6. If you have additional neighborhood concerns, you may also notify the HOA Board for documentation.
